John Vandeall was the second son of Phillip Vandewall, and Sarah his wife. He settled at Harwich as a baker, and died in 1657, leaving issue by Mary, his wife, three sons. Having joined the early Quakers, the mother and her sons appear to have suffered considerable persecution. The descendants of John Vandewall were very numerous, and several attained considerable commercial eminence, and were well-known members of the Society of Friends. The last of the family bearing the name was Phillip Vandewall, of White's Row, Whitechapel, who died in 1861 without issue.
